Not being able to stand by moving forward/jumping slowly?

Are these just glitches on my side or intended? It's driving me a bit insane not being able to stand up/get out of spell book by just moving forward.

Also, I don't remember jump ever slowing you down. Whenever I jump, it's like I'm moving 50% speed for the duration of the jump and giving mobs an easier time catching me, instead of moving slightly faster than the mob for the duration of the jump.

Sorry if these have been posted before. I did some searches involving "Jumping" and nothing relevant came up.
