Default "Near Guards" levelling guide.

Prompted by a recent thread I've decided to suggest a levelling guide for players who like to stay near guards whilst XPing.

1-10 Butcherblock. Kill newbie yard stuff, then venture out to the Tjunction to kill wanderers. If you pull from the goblin camp you might also be able to kill near the guards.

Alternative:

Everfrost. Just like Butcherblock you can kill close to the guards near the city to begin with and then later you can hang out on the edge of the tundra to kill the wanderers. You can probably get a few more levels here than butcherblock.

12-19
Highpass. Kill orcs or gnolls. Plenty of guards here to help. Bring a group.

19-35
Highkeep. Kill goblins.

35+?

Please give suggestions!

Pro tip: Keep an eye out for players killing the guards as they may ruin your safety net. If you ask nicely perhaps they will 'play guard' for you.

Personally, I think relying on leveling near guards is a really bad idea. It deprives you of learning strategy as you level and gives you a safety crutch. As a newbie, you run to guards. Sure. But as you level, you need to wean your reliance on using them. Learning to properly pull without agro, learning what mobs are social with others and themselves are extremely important. Learning to move to a lower traffic pull spot is important as well.

I mean, it could be fun for some to rely on guards, but you're not going to be a huge hit in parties with that mentality. *shrug* (Jim, I know you likely don't play that way and you're just trying to help, not trying to say you came up with this whole thing because you want to do it or anything)

Yea but with the ZEM levelling in more dangerous areas is worth it.

Also as you get higher level it's probably better to reference areas near a zoneline that are low traffic. Can't think of any right now though been too long [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

(If you are in the orc group, it is easier to zone into kith. It is right there.)

So then you are lvl 50ish and have no survival skills. You will eat a ton of deaths when experience actually matters. 50+ ... 55+

Those guards do not always assist. They only actually seem to assist when roaming outside of the city and just as you're about to finish the mob off. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

You could probably level all the way to 60 with this idea. After a while just switch the "near guards" to "near zone line".

And it's not like he said people should level on this exclusively. Maybe someone is having a hard time soloing just before a new spell rank so for that level they kill shit near the guards. Not a bad idea at all, just don't level this way in its entirety.

Some of the levels above differ from the Per-leveling guide but are pretty accurate, at least for me so far at 49 on the Necro. Wanted to level exclusively on guards/goodly/non-traditional NPCs but it's much slower (albeit more profitable) than dungeons/grouping/fast-track routes. Again all the above as a Necro.. I'm sure for Shaman/Ench/maybe Druid the levels are similar, but other classes might find things a bit tough.
