hotel wifi
Does anyone else have issues playing while connected to hotel wifi? I can play just fine at home on my laptop over wireless connection but when I try to play using hotel wifi I can't even get past character select. My screen turns black just before character select and freezes.

I think that's often to do with public wifi providers not wanting people gaming on their internet services and they block certain ports?
I don't know the details on it but it's certainly happened to me before when I tried to get EQ running in my uni library when bored... connected to server select fine, wouldn't let me get any closer. I guess the one alternative to try that I've never done myself is to try tethering to your phone and using that?

Well that just seems like a waste when I'm stuck at a hotel with nothing else to do.

basically one of two things - shity wifi signal (interference etc, far from Access point, etc) or else their internet is congested - too many ppl streaming pr0n already.
try switching to a wired connection if thats an option, and if not, just keep trying!

Get a cheap pay as you go dongle / tether your phone / use your phone as a dial up connection (dial up is classic).

Well I can stream movies and stuff just fine. I figured if I could do that much EQ shouldn't be a problem.

once you get into the actual world, youd be amazed at the amount of packet loss between cleint/server can handle and keep you going. but loading into the zone (and espcially zoning between zones), its like 1 lost packet can kill the entire process.
almost like the old problems people experienced in TT, i suggested then that they need to look into improving the QOS on zoning/loading. But then they ended up fixing the problems with TT specifically. Maybe something there can be applied to zoning/loading QOS
