Default Gated back home and now I can't log in

Hello,
So I'm commuting back and forth from Texas to Ohio and I'm back in in Ohio and can't log in. If I had my eqemu screen up on my laptop in Texas, would that prevent me from even being able to connect to the server on my desktop in Ohio? I'm pretty sure I wasn't logged in, just had the log in screen up and closed the laptop which should have put it in stand by mode.

It shouldn't if you weren't logged in.

What exactly is happening?

I was getting "the could not connect to server" message. After toying around with it, I just ended up deleting all my eq files and reinstalling everything. Thank Goodness I had it backed up on a thumb drive! Back up now! Not sure what was going on with it.
