No UI on character select screen

After creating my first character and running him around Qeynos a bit, I have decided that I'm firmly not decided on whether I want to play this race/class combo. Unfortunately, I don't quite know what to do about it because at character select there is no user interface! I can press Enter to log in on that character or Esc to return to the Login screen. I've done a couple Google searches and most of the results around character deletion (or selection) have to do with inactivity or post login/character selection crashing. Has anyone heard of this problem before? It's been 15 years since I've played so excuse my ignorance if this is what the game did all those years ago!
