Pet exp penalty?

I'm seeing a lot of different information on whether pets will take some of your exp depending on how much damage you heal. Anyone have any solid information on the topic, a link to a helpful article would be great!

Oct 23rd update: "Classic pet experience distribution." Oct 23 2011 Patch.

In order to receive full experience for a kill solo, you need to do more than 50% of the damage to the mob. If your pet out-damages you, it will take 50% of the experience away from the kill. This is a major change from the previous system, in which you only needed to do a single point of damage to the mob in order to get full experience. If you are grouped, you and your group will get full experience from the kill, regardless of how much damage the pet does.

DO you need a full group or just grouped with at least 1 other person?

^^^ this can be negated solo by using reclaim energy/invis/hide (summoned pet) or by breaking charm via invis/hide/etc (charmed pet). damage pet had done is wiped.

Also, any damage done by a DS doesn't count toward that total. Only damage (DD, melee, etc.) done by the pet.

Not sure if it still works, but the person doesn't have to be in the same zone. You can have your buddy sitting in EC all day in your group and youll never have to reclaim pet or worry about not getting full exp

Just use fire pet till 52, you can easily out damage it. Since the damage shield does most of the damage each fight you wont have to waste too much mana to get full exp.
