Default Spell files

Howdy,

Haven't played in a few months. No changes to my machine since then, everything worked fine before, but now I'm getting the error message at character screen. Something about my spell files not being updated. What gives?

I've looked at posts made in the past concerning this issue, but my mediocrity with anything computer related is enough that unless someone spells out what I need to do with simple steps - as though talking to a 2nd grade - I'm in the dark. Any help would be appreciated.

-Ket

You need to download the newest patch .zip file at http://www.project1999.com/files/P99Files36.zip (or check out the post on the home page) and extract the contents of that file into your Everquest directory.

Do I completely delete the old spell files folder before extracting?

Thanks for the reply.

Thank you all for the replies so far.

Let's just pretend that you're telling this to you 105 year old grandpa that still uses rotary phones and remembers fondly the horse and carriage rides of his youth. This is what I did.

Downloaded the linked spell effects file -----> extracted that file onto my desktop -----> dragged the downloaded and extracted file into my EQ folder ------> at the prompt, I merged, and elected to replace all old files with new ones -----> logged into p99 and got the same result

I feel like I'm missing something important but stupid.

Initially extract them to the actual Everquest folder, not your desktop.

The error will often still occur even if you've updated your spells files. If you know you've updated them (check the dates of the files), continue trying.
