Default Mage - Rain spells

Been using my low lvl rain spell and noticed that it seems that all three waves hit instantly.... Was the delay of waves added later?

AFAIK rain spells are fairly broken atm.

I haven't seen that happen before, but then I haven't used rain spells in forever because they're awful.

Are you sure you're not hitting 3 mobs with your single wave of rain?

-If one mob is in the target area you get 3 waves.
-If two mobs are in the area you get 2 waves hitting each mob
-If three or more mobs are in the area you get one wave hitting three mobs

You sure this last isn't what you're getting? Not sure if it's been fixed because I don't use rains either but friendly pets in the area can use up a hit, two pets use two hits making it a single wave.

Rain spells are also highly resisted. They are supposed to be per design because they are so highly mana efficient. However, resists are fubar on p99 so they are even more highly resisted than they should be. On live rain's resists were re-adjusted for velious and landed much more often, hopefully this will be the case on p99.

My advice is to put the rain spells away until velious comes out and then try them again.

I had the same trouble with rain spells when I tried using them. Pets take up hits, and its not three "waves" its three "hits."

Rains are broken. The best way to even try to use them is on single targets at which point they would be mana efficient, if they didn't resist like crazy.

Thanks guys.

I was hitting multiple targets with them. I had a mage on live and I remembered it being 3 waves that hit everything in the area. The waves were separated by about 1/2 a tick iirc.

Oh well, I will just avoid them for now.

it's not 3 hits. it's 3 or 4 hits depending on what's hit

1 mob = 3 hits (3 waves)
2 mobs = 2 hits each (2 waves)
3 mobs = 1 hit each (1 wave)
4 mobs = 1 hit each (1 wave)

pets and the caster can count as one of the mobs

This and I believe their resist-ability is too high. making them totally useless.

I understand the multiple mobs situation but why is it when I cast a 3 waves rain of spikes it only hits 2 times?

Really is this "classic" or live?
could explain why I only see 2 wave messages hitting enemy mobs.

The resist on my latest rain spell is incredibly high and so high in fact I just avoid using it completely.

On live I "remember" rains being pretty reliable for 2x hits (on a single target), making them about as efficient as a normal nuke but with the added perk of the damage being spread out so you could cast sooner in a fight and/or follow up with a normal nuke for some sweet burst. You would basically never see 3x resists, and you'd sometimes see 3x hits.

Here it seems like 3x resists is uncommon, 2x resists is common, 2x hits is a pleasant surprise, and 3x hits is like winning the lottery. Too bad too, cause something like a 33% base resist chance per wave per mob would be a great boost for mages and wizards in normal groups.
