Hey guys, just got into this over the weekend and really, really enjoying it for some reason.

Levelling is slow, dying really fucking hurts, there's always random shit around that kills me really easy. I dinged 8 at least four times.

This is EQ I remember and love, its like an abusive relationship. I've gone back to EQLive a few times and can't handle it.

I just wish I had gotten on earlier. My only worry is with Velious due soon (?) that I'll miss the boat so to speak. What do you guys think that the release will do to Vanilla / Kunark adventuring for a brand new lowbie? I'm playing a chanter to group as much as possible and it'll be sad if all the action is on the new continent.

I was playing back in the day when Kunark and Velious came out but have no clear recollection of how the release went in terms of player activity. I know that the release of the Moon ruined the old world, but how much is Velious expected to pull away from the older stuff? Will EC still be a hub? How much time do I have to get into my 30s and 40s etc?

I wouldn't worry about about Velious. I'd guess that it has several more months of development at the very least.

When velious drops everyone will be on their mains going after the biggest and baddest content they can. So you're not likely to find a lot of groups in the low level range at that time.
You're not playing a heavy experience penalty class so I don't think you'll have any problems being 30+ by the time Velious drops. Even if all the groups disappear at that time you'll be high enough to charm kite and continue getting xp.

I started in August 2000, when Velious was already in the offing, so rather like this time round, in fact, and never had a lack of people to play with, even as a Brit on a US server. So, fingers crossed that it's the same here.

You'll be fine. Playing my SK I am seeing a lot of folks in the 16-20 range who are playing their first/highest P99 character.

This. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Yes there will be a lot of people going back to the mains to head over there but there are still a lot of new people here recently that still have some chars below the mark.

I just started too, it took me about a month to get into my 50's and I am not playing all that much. I am having a really good time.
