Default Can a shaman main heal?

So starting eq agian after about 14 years I guess. Me and a few guys are looking to start a group. We have no one interested in playing a cleric. I would consider a shaman seems like I might have a little more to do the complete heal and sit down. But is a shaman a viable option in higher level dungeons for a healer? Should have a enchanter for mez and clarity

Shamans are definitely weak healers in full groups at higher levels (40s and up), because this is the point at which they have a million things to do. Keeping up a lot of mana-intensive buffs on a lot of people and slowing mobs takes a lot of mana and doesn't leave a lot of room for lots of healing. It can work out depending on the group composition, but generally speaking having a cleric (or at least a second priest, e.g. a druid along with the shaman or even two shamans who can split duties) is a good idea. Complete Healing is also far and away more mana-efficient than the standard healing spells at high levels if you're healing a tank.

Cleric – Lvl 1 Minor healing, Lvl 5 Light Healing, Lvl 14 Healing, Lvl 24 Greater Healing, Lvl 34 Superior Healing & Word of Health (AE 100hp heal), Level 39 Complete Healing

Druid – Lvl 1 Minor Healing, Lvl 9 Light Healing, Level 19 Healing, Level 29 Greater Healing, Level 34 Regeneration, Level 44 Chloroplast, Level 53 Superior Healing

Shaman – Lvl 1 Inner Fire, Lvl 9 Light Healing, Level 19 Healing, Level 24 Regeneration & Cannibalize, Level 29 Greater Healing, Level 39 Chloroplast, Level 52 Regrowth, Level 53 Superior Healing

Ranger – Level 9 Minor Healing, Level 22 Light Healing, Level 39 Healing, Level 55 Chloroplast, Level 57 Greater Healing,

Paladin – Level 9 Minor Healing, Level 15 Light Healing, Level 30 Healing, Level 39 Greater Healing, Level 45ish Deepwater Helmet, Level 57 Superior Healing

Bard – Level 6 Hymm of Restoration, Level 47 Niv's Melody of Preservation, Level 55 Cantata of Replenishment

Cleric's are better raw healers than the other priests, but bring less utility to the group than a shaman or druid. Overlapping heals for priests are 1-5, 9-14, and 29-34.

Paladins overlap with second tier healers for 15-19, 39-53. Rangers overlap with Paladins 9-15.

Bards are the only class with passive regeneration before level 24. Mana free of course.

It will come down to your group composition. Holy Trinity of Tank, Healer, Enchanter you'll be better off in the long run with a cleric. Shamans will have mana back through cannibalize and are superior for healing 29-39, or as early as 24 if your group doesn't take much damage. Not to mention their slows, SoW, haste, & other buffs. If you are okay making a group without a tank and still want some heals go for a shaman.

If you plan on raiding look at the guild forum recruiting section and you can make a group based around that. (Hint Clerics, Wizards, Rogues, Bards, Magicians)

At higher levels 55+ shaman cannot main heal a group in any worthy dungeon, until he gets Torpor at 60. As mentioned earlier with resist debuffs, slows, buffs your mana is limited and your main heal is weak.

If you are going to run no cleric I suggest you have a druid, paladin, sk, ranger, or bard in your group that will give another form of regeneration or else you will not be able to use the shaman class as it is intended.
