Default Race based on a Weapon

Just lookin for opinions once again. Do you think its a reasonable reason to make a Barbarian shaman based solely on obtaining a Barbarian Spiritist's Hammer? Or even other gear options for that matter. Or go with the Troll or the Regen?. Also even tho regen is fantastic at lower levels in combination with Canni, is it that important/noticeable at high levels?

The other thing to keep in mind with a Troll is the xp penalty.

That being said, here are the regen rates for my level 21 Troll SK so far...

Level 1-19 -> 6 sitting
Level 20-? -> 9 sitting

I think a non-Troll/non-Iksar is 2 sitting until 20, and then 3 after 20. So the bump is significant.

I would say no, since there will always be something else out there which is better - admittedly, we know future itemization since P1999's path is laid out.

I guess it comes down to your goal - if your goal is wield the hammer, go for it. If your goal is badass weapons on your shaman, maybe no. If your goal is something different and the hammer is just the means to that end... explore your goal more.

For me, I pick first based on what I enjoy doing in a raid, then from all those combinations strongly associated with those activities, I pick race/class based on visual appearance.

Goal...

edit: with torpor come kunark, you'd he hard pressed to notice another 4 hp regen standing.

Aye, Indeed, although i enjoy the looks of Iksar shaman, no JBB is no thx. Im just a big fan of being in melee as a shaman, why i was wondering if that item choice really mattered so much.

Think about regen this way, it all adds up. As a shaman in classic, you'll be regening/chloroing yourself anyways, but the extra racial regen does help. Most people probably don't have access to a Rubi BP at least at first, (or Barbarian Spiritist's Hammer for that matter - 65k or so) and Fungi is out of the picture for who knows how long. I don't know the specifics on troll regen, but I think at 50 it's close to the bump that Rubi BP gives you (and of course stacks). Correct me if I am wrong, I haven't done any tests or anything.

Ultimately, pick whichever of the races you like most. I picked Troll, for the regen and the innoruuk necklace sure, but mostly because I just like Trolls. If I had liked Barbarians more I would have picked a Barb, same with Ogre.

Also keep in mind the racial XP penalties - Troll 20% Ogre 15% Barbarian 5% (though at lower levels the regen definitely mitigates the XP penalty by giving you less downtime between fights)

Basically you'll hit 50 (and eventually 60) really quick no matter your choice, so you might as well pick that which you like best.
