Default Narrowing down choices

Hi all!

Just started up on this server yesterday. Been playing EQ pretty regularly since 2000. Also play on live servers, but want to try this out.

I know you get this question a lot, but I'm still torn on my "Main". I made an enchanter first for soloing/grouping, but I have a feeling that won't be my main, since their raid use is limited later on (velious).

I've narrowed it down to either cleric or rogue. Cleric has always been my primary main since 2000. Did the whole high end raiding scene. But I also enjoy rogues and it's a nice break from the stress of healing.

They both seem to be in high demand on this server. With a goal of eventually getting my epic and raiding, if you guys had to pick which would you go with? Is one easier to level/get groups with than the other? Is rogue a better choice due to being more flexible/less stressful?

I'm a bit concerned about the whole selling epics though. I see a lot of talk about how everyone has a twink rogue with a Ragebringer and you have to buy your epic to have any shot at it. Is that an overblown issue for these 2 classes?

Thanks for the feedback! I plan on having both characters, but I'd like to lean towards one over the other to focus on.

I have found LFG as a cleric to be pretty good. I mostly PuG'd 1-60. I have no experience playing a rogue here though.

As far as epics go, you can definitely do the rogue one with no major hassles. The cleric epic can be a bit more of a pain due mostly to Ragefire being heavily camped. A lot of people seem to do the entire cleric epic quest except for RF, and then just buy the heart MQ.

Welcome to the server!!

Rogue epic is probably the easiest one in the game. Cleric epic isn't that bad either if you're with a raiding guild, but yeah, Ragefire can be a hassle. You don't need to MQ anything if you're in a raiding guild.

In terms of which to play: yeah, both are very useful for groups. Rogues are boring as shit to play because you do very little with them. Clerics aren't that complicated, but at least you're watching multiple HP bars and your own mana, keeping track of buffs, and possibly rooting/lulling. I would not call playing a cleric stressful. So I'd personally prefer a cleric. But if you're OK with doing nothing but auto attacking, backstabbing, and evading, then feel free to go rogue. I'd also venture to say that clerics are slightly more capable soloers than rogues (assuming you're poor and don't have money for leet gear), if you're having trouble finding a group, although clerics are really really slow soloers.

Rogue's are boring? I know it is personal preference but out of all the characters I ever played back in Live, Rogue was far from boring. It was the most interactive character I have ever played. Sure, if you are just getting twinked and PL'd through all your levels, it is boring, it is boring for any class.
If you are not constantly moving around and working on your skills then you are not playing a rogue properly. Yes it is almost impossible to solo as rogue past a certain point and be fun doing it but the satisfaction you get from playing one is one of the best experiences I have had gaming.
It is all going to come down to your playstyle in the end. No one can tell you what the best class to play is, you can only find this out for yourself.
