Default Common core

Is there anyone who still supports this garbage? I honestly didn't know it was still in use till I saw the recent trending topics.

I'd call my senator about it but I'm pretty sure his personal lobbyist would tell him/her to ignore me.

Nearly everyone already does common core on the fly anyway.

Like, your meal comes to $11.79. You want to give the waitress $15.00.

$11.79 -> $11.80 -> $12.00 -> $15.00

.01 + .20 + 3.00 = $3.21

I was taught the old way, but do it this way in my head in real life situations.

I have no fucking clue what common core is, based on the example above I'm guessing it's a way for people with limited brain function to do 3rd grade level math problems?

It's a way of teaching children from K-grade 12 in an attempt to maximize standardized test results. The method was created and implemented without testing by a group that has no experience in education. Long story short it's a business model.

You can't teach the kid the shortcut. They need to come to that ability on their own or they won't understand the basics.
