Disarm mechanics

Simply put, I've been trying to work the skill for forever and it seems to be moving at a snail's pace. Does a disarm automatically fail if you're behind a mob?

Logic (if that ever applies in EQ) would say that you'd need to be at the front of a mob to disarm it...or is it just a REALLY slow skill to raise?

Thoughts?

it takes a reallly long time comparatively; Intimidation even goes up way faster

i have been spamming disarm on my monk since (whatever level you get it :-p).. hes 54 ATM and disarm is like.. 170~
