Default trouble connecting / windows 7

hi folks, I could use a little help with my problem:

I can't log in. I get to the login in screen, enter my pw, and then get the "can not connect to the server. check your internet connection..." blah blah.

I am running windows 7-64 bit.
I was previously able to play on this OS, but i had to reinstall windows recently.
I did a complete reinstall of titanium.
I have turned off all fire walls, and done all steps in the setup section (eqhost, etc).
I have tried running all the compatibility modes it allows me to.

do you have any suggestions?

i'm thinking there is some stupid setting in windows7 that i am not turning off/on, but i really can't figure it out. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

tried couple more things:
1. added port 5998 to the list of open ports manually for the fire wall to let through.
2. added eqgame to the list of programs for the fire wall to allow though.

firewalls were turned off already, but thought this might still do something. no luck.

any suggestions please?

Any anti-virus installed that would monitor outbound connections? (Trend, SEP, etc?)

I'm guessing IE is working ok and not set to use any proxies?

Are you able to ping eqemulator.net ?
Try resetting your router and/or modem.

Check your shortcut and make sure you have the 'patchme' line added at the end.

Mine looks like this:
C:\EQLite\eqgame.exe patchme

If you have spaces in the path name you'll need to add quotes.
"C:\EQ Lite\eqgame.exe" patchme

Try moving the folder to the root of your drive also.

Do you have this in your eqhost file?

[LoginServer]
Host=eqemulator.net:5998

If not change it, if that's what you have then try this

[LoginServer]
Host=67.23.190.71:5998

1. reset router/modem. no difference.
2. moved folder to root of drive. no difference.
3. double checked patchme added to short cut. no difference.
4. no anti-virus software, other than whatever is native to windows7 firewall (which i've turned off).

still seems stuck...i'm fairly convinced it is a windows 7 problem as i was able to log in before i had to reinstall windows 7.

the eqhost file was already edited to look like the top option. tried the bottom option, and exact same error.

i can get to the login screen, but it says i can't login in to the server when i enter my user/pw.

internet otherwise works fine. other games work fine. i can connect to steam, for example, and download things just fine.

I know this is a long shot, but are you logging in with your forum details or your EQ details (if different)?

Not really a solution for you, but at the moment I am using windows 7 64-bit and running perfectly, didn't have to do anything extra like you usually would for other old games. I followed eqemulator.org's getting started then this sites setup guide. I guess just try a reinstall
