Default What is a hardcore EQer?

Funny, I was thinking about the whole "hardcore" player and that they work harder and deserve more, etc. And this got me thinking of how a hardcore player now is nothing like a hardcore player back when EQ was new.

Classic EQ hardcore player:

Online way too much. If not raiding was online doing other things waiting to raid more. Was a constant community presence. Did other things to occupy their time, trying quests, etc. Passed thru newbies so they could awe at their awesome gear. If a raid was called, he had to be online and ready, figure out a way to get to the raid, etc. Start clearing to the mob, hopefully the guild had all the necessary classes. Call up your buddy that plays a cleric on the phone and tell him to get on now!

P99 hardcore player:

Has xxx number of accounts, kept on login screen. Not actually playing the game, probably playing other games. Gets a automatic text message "Trak up", logs on account XX on player XX already camped there. Spam a few buttons, wait to see who won loot, log back out and go back to playing something else.

The classic EQ hardcore player is actually considered a "casual" here and can't compete because he won't be able to get to Trak fast enough. And if he wants a chance to compete its considered "handouts".

Funny how definitions change. Which player is better for the community as a whole? Everyone wants a classic experience here and the second guy is definitely not a classic experience.

There's still classic hardcore EQ'ers on this server. I spend far too much time logged in, or on the forums if not. Never been into batphoning or anything on that level however.

You kind of gloss over someone having xxx accounts. You do realize with the exception of a few accounts people bought when it was legal most "hardcore" players had to level their multiple accounts. The hardcore players are on this game a shitload but they are leveling different toons because there is a lot less to do for each toon.

Also the clearing you are describing happens a lot more in later expansions than in Kunark. You don't really have to clear much for the raid targets in Kunark.

What exactly is the point of this post? Just to spew more hate? You want classic ask for 4/5 of the people over level 50 to leave, or ask for more content, or ask for everyone to forget strategies known for over a decade, or ask for no variance.

Never said anything was illegal and if people could do it 14 years ago I'm sure they would've. More geared towards the people screaming that all these new ideas of sharing/rotation/whatever aren't classic when the methods used today are far from classic, as well as just the idea of what exactly is a hardcore player now.
And its true Kunark doesn't have a lot of clearing for raid mobs but without people camped at a raid mob even the best most organized guild with mostly all mains is gonna take at the very least 20-30 minutes from guild call to engage Trak.
I'm also not saying the hardcore guilds don't also have some "Classic hardcore eqers" as well in their ranks.

Don't hate the player hate the game. Honestly though, the same people with alts are the same type playing tons of hours.

The real difference here is times have changed and people make use of changes. Vent is common place now where as chat was all there was before. On live I never even called a cleric buddy but many guilds use batphone here.

Basically every endeavor in the world has advanced over time with strategy and technology. Why would Everquest be any different?

If MMORPG players were around when God said, "Let there be light" they'd have called the light gay, and plunged the universe back into darkness by squatting their nutsacks over it.
