Default Mage pet needs Lapis Lazuli?

When did the reagent change form Malachite? I am trying to cast my level 12 pets and I get the message that I am missing Lapis Lazuli.

You only need lapis for that level, iirc. Possibly the next...don't really remember.

After that it's all malachite.

Yes it was like that in classic, 2 spell levels of pets needing lapis, then back to malachite. Totally pointless imo, catches every mage out though.
