It's fun to regularly see new players popping into the forums, announcing that they are starting (or restarting) p99. This place is great, endgame and trolls and all, you just need to remember that this is a GAME and so it is about having fun. Just because someone else did x, y, or z and said it was fun doesn't mean you need to or should follow in their footsteps. A huge part of the fun in classic and on p99 was/is exploring and finding your own way in the world, though sometimes with some guidance.
If any new players have questions about anything, feel free to shoot me a PM or a tell. My 'specialties' are enchanters and soloing, but I've done at least a little bit of everything on p99 over the last few years. If you "/who all A-Team" odds are any of us who are online would be willing to answer your questions too (and if they aren't, tell them it's my fault). [You must be logged in to view images. The thing is the forums make end game and the server in general seem 100x worse then it actually is lol

If you are 60, and not in TMO, your life consists of hate and fear, and sky. And you can sit in seb or kc and never do anything. But, yeah, the journey to 60 is a good time, and hey, if you are just starting now, and aren't a powergamer, maybe velious will be out by the time you'd care anyway.

I've been 60 for like 10 months with my enchanter. I am not only NOT in TMO, I'm not even in one of the other big guilds (divinity, europa, taken, fe, etc). But I have a fuckload of fun on p99. Spore king with guild, planes raids, soloing and duoing and grouping in the bottom of HS and hole and seb, helping out new players on the server with random drive-by buffs, etc. And of course leveling alts has always been a fun thing for most people, and part of the classic experience. If this dude is 60 and all he does is hate, fear, sky, and sit doing nothing in seb or kc, it is no one's fault but his own. It's true that you need to be in TMO to have a shot at killing VP dragons, but even TMO doesn't get all of the non-VP mobs (just the lion's share). And again, there is much more to do in the game than kill said boss mobs.

There's content to explore, level 1 thru level 60. People should just experience it, try new things, recreate old memories, and enjoy the game! I think one of the things that feeds a lot of the animosity on this server is that realistically, 90%+ of the population is experienced, savvy EQ veterans looking to come back and reach equal to or higher than they were able to on Live. When they come in here now, roll that first character, and see that there are dominant guilds already - they forget how long this project has been around and what types of root systems have already been established. Do I agree with the status of the endgame on this server? No, I don't, but I still think in the long run there's far more to enjoy if you simply seek out challenges and see what you can do, how much you can accomplish and clear those challenges. I'm enjoyed my time on this server since day 1, even with raid content frustrations and challenges between my guild and TMO/IB/FE/etc etc etc....it's the competitive nature of the top 10-15% from Live all converging into one server and elbowing their neighbors for space. It's bound to happen. So long story short- I've always appreciated your take on things, Tecmos, and I enjoy seeing you try to combat the overabundant negativity that generally lurks its way onto these forums, and into the game.

I dont know, I just joined and im having a blast. I just hope there are people to group with before I get to 60 there seems to be a very top heavy side to this, but maybe there is a bottleneck of people at like 30 or so that I can get in on.

Finding people to group with depends on a few things, like what times you play and how long you are on at a time... but definitely the most important things are 1) finding friends/a guild who are happy to group with you when you're on even if you aren't ideal mixtures or whatever and 2) hanging out in the popular zones. P99's popular zones are EC area, gfay+crushbone, oasis, unrest, mistmoore, south karana, city of mist, karnors. People spend time in other zones too, but if you want a good chance of being able to find a group without having to put it together yourself, stick to these spots.

I'm only level 8 right now but from my noob druid in Gfay and being in Field of Bone there seem to be anywhere from 6-12 people in each zone so I'm hoping a good bit of zones stay that way.... Unless I want a specific camp then everyone go away [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I think it really varies from zone to zone... There are quite a few people if you know where to go. Lots of people in Unrest, South Karana, Everfrost (maybe that's just a druid hangout), Kunark seems to be loaded with people. The more you play, you'll learn the hangouts =) Welcome to the server guys!
