Default Why are people excited for new server with a merge?

I'm having a hard time understanding the hype if the two pvp servers are going to be merged anyways. Is the entire point of this new server to allow people to get mana stones and guises that can be later transferred to red99? It just seems like a lot of work for nothing. You could just continue to play your char on red99 and destroy everyone who started completely over on the new server once they merge.

The idea is that when the merge takes place, there will be a new large pool of 60s. Though those 60s may not have VP gear, they will at least have planar/easier Kunark pieces. Though you could attempt to lvl up your character on red99 and gear them, you truly won't make as much progress because Nihilum is doing their best to stop all efforts of opposing guilds progressing (even on past expansions-- vox/nagafen post on forums a few days ago first I heard of an actual dragon being killed in months?,) and they're doing a damn well job. Props Nihi, you guys have been cock blocking the server better than 95% of other guilds I've seen, even on live.

I imagine you will see a bunch of fresh accounts with large races that have a guise and lots of people bound at the firepots.

I know I always wanted a firepot bound wizard. Figure I will get a PL from friends post merge.

Release new server with Velious. By the time the merge takes place, there will likely be a good chunk of players in HOT/Ntov gear in the least. No one will really care about VP loot at this point.

It just seems like a lot of work for nothing.
Step 1: Clone database.
Step 2: Hardcode teams (2 hours of coding?)
Step 3: Launch server.

Pretty sure if they wanted to they could put this server out in a single day. The appeal of a new server only applies to the noobies (me) and those who quit/are new to the server. A new server is kind of a slap in the face to those that have uber geared toons on this server/invested thousands of hours of play time. So yes, I can see how it doesn't make sense for you but at least the server isn't being wiped (which is an easier alternative.)

They already mentioned a big reason for the new server was to give new players a chance at a fresh start. This means attack of the clone wars won't be happening.

To the guy above saying Velious, they also said this is project 1999 and they will always be true to the progression time line, starting with classic and no expansions.

Really bad idea to rush this thing. i would rather wait 3 years for it then have it implemented the way R99 was.

We got a perfectly fine box to play on. We got a promise of a better future. The city state has not fallen yet. There's plans for Civil Works in place.

Lets do this right.
