Is it possible? Don't know how difficult it would be to implement but I thought maybe if 15 or 20 votes were cast to revoke a certain person's OOC then they'd get a 24 hour break or something. Could cast votes by /tell to a specific channel/bot/whatever. Votes would have to come from different IPs and each char over level 30 should get to vote only once every 6 hours. So if voted to mute someone i'd have to wait 6 hours before being able to vote again. (And even if I voted on a different char my IP has already voted. So I'd need to be on a different char and different IP if I wanted to vote again, even if directed at a different person.)
Person muted should have his IP, and any accounts logged into from that IP within the past 3 months, ooc revoked. Threshold could be static or dynamic. Like you need 15 votes to get muted, or maybe it should be 15% of the players currently online. Or if a person is a repeat offender they take less votes to be made quiet. All these votes would have to be made within a specific time period, so if within two hours someone aggregated 15 votes only then would he be muted. Otherwise if it went past 2 hours, the 1st persons vote would expire and not count toward the total anymore. All these numbers/time periods I'm just making up haven't given a lot of consideration to, just trying to get an idea out about how the community could police itself, and yet keep the system resistant to abuse. Why revoke someone's OOC in the first place? Well even spamming doesn't get to me personally, and it is easy enough to just ignore the green text, or even /ignore a specific person, but the real problem with some of the ooc is that it discourages new players. When you get on to a new server and someone is talking in global text about fucking his dog or whatever, it kinda makes you second guess your decision to go play with these ppl. There are so many great things about having global ooc. If we could get a vote system down we wouldn't have threads created (Faerie's) about reporting players for "bad" ooc. | ||
