Default Can't get to char select

I used to play p1999 couple years back and just wanted to get back into it now. Since then I have upgraded to a Win8 computer but I don't think thats my problem.

I can get to the server select screen and log-in fine, but when I select p1999 server I can never get to the character select screen, eventually the window goes to "Not Responding" and has to be closed.

Every other server I have tried to log in to works fine, but I can't get into P1999 or P1999 Red. I've tried to review FAQs and previous errors and nothing has fixed this. All drivers are up to date, eqhost file is accurate, I havent made any changes to the spell files or anything else yet. Cannot run the application in compatibility mode for XP or Win7 without getting an error: "The instruction at 0x0492b2f6 reference memory at 0x00000044. The memory could not be read."

Try going to options on the main menu and setting resolution to something like 800x600 or 1024x768. If it loads, awesome. Once in, you can change resolution in-game. If not you may want to try setting your full screen and windowed resolutions in the eqclient.ini file.

And you guys both followed the instructions in the tech discussion faq for this issue?

did you try a number of different combinations of resolutions, as well as running in windowed mode?

lastly, make sure you're running EQ as an administrator as well as in compatibility mode for xp
