Default Jewelcrafting/class

Trying to research a bit about jewelcrafting I am finding a lot saying not to bother with it unless you are an enchanter. I understand that they can enchant metals but I cant find what the advantage of that is. All the recipes I see require only regular metal bars. What am I not understanding about enchanted metals vs regular?

If you don't enchant the bars you end up making the jewelry without stats on it

It can be done, but you'd have to have a VERY patient enchanter friend who wants to blow 225 mana per platinum bar to enchant for you [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Depending on your race...cultural smithing can pull in some nice cash.
