Default Classic Spell Effects

If you rename, delete, or move these two files, you are able to see spell effects like what we saw in '99. They even get cooler the higher level you get.
spellsnew.edd
spellsnew.eff

However, I'm finding that if I do make this change, I miss a portion of the spell effects. When you first start to cast a spell (let's take a heal spell for example), you're supposed to see effects coming from your hands. I'm finding that isn't the case if you make this change. You can sometimes get lucky and find where these effects are. For example, if you are in Rivervale, check out the spot on the ground just before the tunnel into Misty. If you cast a spell, you'll see that the effects that are supposed to be originating from your hands are actually originating on the ground.

I wonder if this is possible to fix? I much prefer the old spell effects.

Well, the old spell effects work great, with the exception that something thinks that your hands are located on the ground in the middle of the zone somewhere. I still use the old effects over the new ones even with this bug [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Well, the way spells worked is DRASTICALLY different between true classic and the Titanium Client. We had a choice to make: Spells from hands, and about 3 spell types totally missing graphics or, all graphics and no hands. We went with the all graphics and no hands. =(.

I query changed the particle effect fields to use the classic equivalent of spells... so *not* deleting those files will give you particles that come from your hands.

If you remove them, you get the "after cast" spell effects. If you leave 'spellsnew.edd and spellsnew.eff' intact, but use our spells_us.txt file, they should appear like mine.

Now, this doesn't look exactly classic, because the spell effects themselves aren't affected by gravity. They simply rise up out of the hands. I'm also not sure if this appropriately provides the proper red/green/blue additions to spells over time.

Hope this helps.

I can verify that they do change the spell effects over time. At level 21, I get different particles for heals and buffs than you do in the video.

Thanks for the answer. Very informative and precise.

The definitive nature of your answer is enough for me to at least "try out" the spell effects you've worked so hard to create. I'll give it a go.
