Gamma in VMware

So work recently took my second computer away, was using Ubuntu and Windows, now using Ubuntu across dual monitors. This means while playing at work I use VMware (which oddly loads quicker than my home computer which is better than my work computer).

Anyway, while using VMware the gamma is really dark, and does not change with the gamma slider, this forces me to carry around greater lightstones just to get some basic vision at night. Any one have this issue?
