You ever notice the only people who ever seem to get clean are people who find god in their lives?? I don't believe in any religion mans created but it seems that the only people who really get clean and STAY that way are people who find god/become religious.
I know four living examples that make this statement very wrong.

I suppose my excuse is I haven't accepted my powerless over my addiction or faith in a higher power yet.
I love you right now.

I hate this complete sentence more than SIMPLY the religious aspect of 12 steps. Honestly, I find some faults with the prayer, but it does have things to learn. All of the anecdotes in their bible have things you can learn, just like any religious scrip. And you can't argue the results. There is not a more efficacious way to long-term get people off alcohol yet. However, it absolutely is addiction replacement for many if not most members, it absolutely is weird and culty, it absolutely is capable of exposing members to the very things (or worse) they are trying to get away from.

Shrug.

Atheist, agnostic and religious people are all equally smug and annoying.
I don't think you know what agnosticism is.

Why do the thought exercises of others cause you so much angst?

Do you think it's likely because thought causes you pain? Or is it simply that witnessing others testifying to their beliefs makes you feel diminished for having spent so little time analyzing why you like dicks so much?
Once you grow up you realize pretty quickly that these "thought exercises" are just you masturbating in self-satisfaction at your ability to paraphrase the same tired talking points for/against religion that we all already thought of and grew past by the age of 14.

its absurd to say that going to AA meetings can be as harmful as alcoholism itself
to be fair, nobody said that, although I will defend that position in this conversation, because aside from the physiological effects of alcohol on mammals, it is true in principle.

What I was referring to however, are the side effects of addiction, not the physiological effects of alcohol on mammals. Would you or most alcoholics end up sucking dick to get to AA? Probably not, but I actually know someone who has done that very thing. Consequences of addiction are consequences of addiction. It doesn't matter what the focus of that addiction is.

If you're not socially retarded, then once you join the adult world you will all realize how cringeworthy you were when you were 14 and thought you had it all figured with your philosophy about how religion (either for or against it).

Believe what you want and keep it to yourself.
I find it odd that you have such a strong opinion about people having opinions.

Anyone can be annoying, agnostics are not exempt from this.
