Vanilla wow was fantastic. Lots of world pvp, invasions, pvp hotspots in a variety of level ranges, etc. itemization hadn't gotten a chance to ruin the game yet.

MC killed it for me. Trying to get 40 assholes to cooperate for that many hours just to have better pixels was bullshit. quit around that time period, but beta and early vanilla was a blast.

I played so emus afterwards, but they always ended up being shitshows with overt hacking and painful arena grinds... After your 3rd 20min+ arena match its hard to queue up another and play the "don't make mistakes and catch the other guy with his pants down" healer fest.

BGs were awesome at first too, until you realized how much it killed world pvp, and ultimately got plagued by pop numbers... You either sat in queue for hours or could insta-queue into losing fights because of how imba the servers were.

I always thought wow pvp could have stood alone as its own game.

so did bliz. So they created arena and BGs.

Which ruined world pvp (and therefore interesting & meaningful pvp)

Yeah because Arenas were so uninteresting and uncompetitive and not intriguing at all or fun compared to anything any other MMO has ever done in history...

Right, you were just bad mad and sad.

BGs you got a point. WoW inventing the BG was the worst thing to happen to future MMOs with PvP. Every MMO since has been BG centric cut and copy.

Arena = watching druids run away/regen for 10 minutes straight. Great fun, would play that for hours.

Problem with Vanilla is that there is virtually no competitive/meaningful PvP. You basically join premades to rank up, not to fight other premades.

I enjoyed TBC the most PvP-wise, but a TBC server won't ever have a healthy population due to PvE reasons. TBC isn't a very PUG friendly expansion outside of Karazhan and Gruuls. You can throw consumables at PvE with a PUG in Vanilla. In WotLK, you can easily PUG ToC and at least half of ICC with the buff. Catacylsm+ has LFR.

So yeah, I doubt there will ever be a healthy TBC server.
