I totally agree, that's why I'm way more moderate atheist than a lot of the people here. If faith in god has some real benefit to your life, I'm happy you found something that works. However, it turns me the fuck off from those programs. Thank god I'm boring and only addicted to EQ and cigarettes.
I'm an atheist, too -- unless it turns out that maybe I am God -- I just don't judge what works for people and I don't demean religious people by questioning their sanity simply because they are religious. Whatever gets one through the night is really none of my business. You don't sound very moderate to me. You sound allergic to God, which can only lead me to assume you were maybe raped with a crucifix as a kid or maybe you were raised Jehova's Witness. Either way, I'm sorry and it wasn't your fault.

I think EQ is doing more damage to my well-being tbh, but thank you for the concern. Every single smoker knows they should quit, and probably wants to. I'd like to. I suppose my excuse is I haven't accepted my powerless over my addiction or faith in a higher power yet.

I guess the distinction I make is whether or not someone is overtly hostile to other people's beliefs and feels an overwhelming desire to prove them wrong and/or call them idiots. I think those atheists who do are wrong and idiots.

The problem with being a passive atheist (which I am) is that while we're being all passive, the zealot Christians have organized and are in the process of implanting political representation in our government. While their success has faltered recently, I don't see them throwing in the towel anytime soon.

Take peyote if you want to change, not even joking, if you seriously want to quit all your drug binges and shit, go get some peyote from your local Arizona shaman

Out of respect for your concern for my health, I'm abandoning my new rogue alt Laira.

That's an awful broad brush to paint with. I mean seriously, there are Christians of every political affiliation. That there are some who believe the country should operate differently than I is no surprise, either -- and they deserve to have their voices heard and their beliefs represented. While there may be an argument to made that having faith is symptomatic of a need to belong and thus the faithful are easily coerced into following whatever the herd accepts that's not the argument I see. I see: "I disagree with their beliefs and don't like that they are organizing in the exact same way I am allowed to organize".

Go read a book or work out. Game of Thrones does not count because it is really shitty fantasy targeted at rednecks and old perverts who don't notice when a character has only a single dimension as long as there is incest or unmotivated cruelty to get excited about. Game of Thrones sucks and I hope that pisses someone off.

Anyone else wonder what percentage of p99 are current or recovering addicts? Do MMOs attract addictive personalities or do they create their own kind of addictive behavior? Is your EQ avatar a way for you to escape into a fantasy where you are capable and heroic? If it is an escape, is it an opiate, impeding real change, or a stimulant, enabling a healthy perspective shift? Is that an awkward analogy in a thread on drugs on the shittiest sub-forum of an almost illegal emulation of ElfSim '99? How the fuck did you get here? How bad is Game of Thrones?
You really hit the target on an often overlooked point here. Most of the people I've known IRL that play mmos are addicts of some type or have addictive personalities. I know back on live around 2001 the main hook for me and my friends and roomies was being able to escape our shitty real lives where we felt powerless and unimportant. I was addicted to EQ first before i started doing drugs because I liked feeling powerful, important, and respected. Feelings I wasn't getting from my real life. Drugs and etc started a bit later after that stopped working because I fully realized what I was doing

I think it's ironic that the more hardcore atheist out of the two us, Halito and I, is the one who's a huge fan of AA. It took one visit to my friend's NA meeting to see that place was chock-full of crazy, in addition to the religious crazy.
Im not a "huge fan of AA" i simply think its absurd to say that going to AA meetings can be as harmful as alcoholism itself. It would have to be one horrible cult to compare to how destructive alcoholism is. Its also important to note that while im not religious myself, that does not mean that I think having a belief in a higher power can't be beneficial and helpful to some people, I just personally don't go in for it.
