What are they revamping about uthgard? A wiped DAoC server sounds pretty cool

edit: just read their "revamp" post on their site. i didn't realize how bad it was with their pop and stuff. guess their server is closed for the time being and origins is the big one for now lol
Uthgard has been out forever, which made it really difficult on new players. I had a 50 Skald but it was really difficult for me to do much when I logged in, especially after the NA guild I was in broke up. People had nearly a decade to form cliques and gain massive amounts of RR, players without the connections, gear, or RR were pretty unwanted.

So, those people went to Origins and Uthgard had a nearly unplayable population. The reboot was a great move, and honestly something Uthgard has needed for awhile.

Uthgard is quality. It is the P99 to Origins' Kegzbox. As soon as Uthgard relaunches in a few months, everyone will come back and Origins will be a ghost town.

not unless they up the max population they can handle, guys were telling me it could only handle like half what origins can now.

This is what I got from reading about it the past few weeks. (not trolling the game i love daoc, just so people dont have to read 50 pages)

1. The first few weeks were zerg fest, people got multiple 50's from aoe/xp groups(not intended)
2. End game dungeons bosses were very weak that smaller groups were basically destroying them and benefiting from loot(not intended)
3. Some quests and items are all in french
4. The server resets everyday, sometimes people lost items/plat luckily they were returnned due to roll backs
5. Peak hours have a lot of lag due to the server cap at max and people basically trying to login
6. A lot of people stay perma logged in throughout the day making it even harder to login
7. Sometimes they lock out account creation, so it can be very troublesome to even make an an account to play

Regarding uthgard - People saying origins sucks and that utgard was like p99 of daoc, but ive read kinda the opposite. Utgard had the same amount of problems or more than origins, thats why the population was so low. They are planning on a revamp and relaunch and honestly it could be superior to origins if the server is stable and can handle more people.

not trolling this is purely what I got from reading the forum. the game is extremely popular and i can see why, daoc was very fun. I played on Morgan Le Fay back in like 2004 or so in a guild called lords of the dead.

This is ridiculous since Uthgard used to get 1000+ population constantly with zero lag, and Origins can't even handle 600 players without the server breaking down.

The only reason that Uthgard's population was so low was because Origins launched and people went over to the shiny new thing. Uthgard has maintained a pretty healthy population for years, and that's despite all its problems (which mostly stem from mudflation type issues with the server being out for so many years). A year ago it had the same population as Origins does now.

Origins felt very rushed to me. In my first 30 minutes of playing I found 4 broken quests and some level 2 mobs that almost always dropped a belt worth something like 22 silver (a ton of cash for a noob). I kinda got frustrated and quit with all the issues / crashes / lag, but I've heard that things didn't get better and nothing was tuned correctly anywhere. You don't see those problems on Uthgard, because they maintain a high quality, classicly accurate database.

Like, on Origins sometimes my system messages (like soandso has looted an x) would just randomly change from English to German to French. How is that even possible?

The server could have been good but it was way too rushed to take advantage of some dissent on the Uthgard server. If they would have spent some extra time polishing the server people like me wouldn't have left to wait for the Uthgard relaunch.

News to me, I never played on Uthgard, I could have it wrong.

I hear things like
"Omg bolts actually work here, why couldn't Uthgard figure out how to make them work"

Yeah rushed sounds about right, was a big mistake not to wipe after the crazy zergs, was only 2 days old, what did u really lose? ive had time to get in 3 50s and i barely knew the game.

Now what this does is half the population is already on top makin it harder for people climbing up to get groups to level. Youre missing that fun part when a server launch of the first weeks of loads of people rolling characters. Its still there but not as awesome as it could have been.

And its not crippling since u can still get a level 50 probably in 2 weeks easy playing semi-casually, still was wrong decision to make imo

And they are done with server resets apparently, now its supposed to be 2 hour downtime per week.
