i play rocket league on a keyboard

in fact the only game i don't play with a keyboard is Street Fighter, since I got a fight stick

also have an x-box controller, but the joysticks on it are terrible, so is the D-pad, i mean i did a challenge on SF which is purely input related, tried for an hour on a controller, never worked, got a fight stick, took 5 mins..

The Steam controller is pretty different from a normal controller. Normal controllers usually have a D-pad and two joysticks. The Steam Controller has a D-pad, only one joystick, and a trackpad.

The idea is that the Steam controller lets you play games where you'd normally want a mouse (like Civ) by providing a trackpad. The problem is the trackpad works really poorly at simulating a mouse. I was a PC purist my whole life but the best games just aren't designed for PC anymore.

would be interedasted in PC controller recommendations too (mostly for emulation, dont need the mouse emulation).

I had a logitech USB controller once but the buttons were so stiff/snappy that they hurt my thumb joints just pressing. PS3 controllers are pretty great physically but the windows drivers are a pain in the balls and I have to run software everytime I plug them in. Xbox controllers are pretty much gay.

I've heard PS4 controllers are plug and play on Windows, can anyone confirm/deny/comment or recommend something superior?

Also, would really like a troller or software that allows me to emulate d-pad using analog, so i can play real old games with an analog stick. Not many emulators seem to support the xinput analog or whatever, and I would rather I could just have it interpret different axes as button presses/holds. please help, i have bushido blade to play.

I have a Logitech F710. Owned this thing for a couple years. Battery lasts forever. Dropped it a million times and still works good as new.

It is plug n play, no software required since the driver auto-installs off the USB dongle. I either put the USB in my PC or Steam Link (which has 3 USB slots) depending which I want to use.

can you comment on how the button press feels compared to a typical console controller? The other logitech controller I owned had buttons that felt distinctly shittier than any other controller I'd used

Haven't tried anything but House of the Dying Sun yet. I will say that it is pretty fucking great, albeit short. Good replay though, and VR space combat will never get old to me.

ps4 controller is not plug and play. Need to use InputMapper for it. After using PS4 controller for 2 years on PC i switched a XB1 controller after getting a XB1 back in march and realizing that the smaller ps4 controller was making my hands cramp while playing Overwatch where the XB1 controller didnt. due to its larger size and me not wrapping my hands all the way around it like the PS4. Ive never used a "PC Controller" by logitech or anything like that so cant comment. If you want to use wireless PS4 can be used with a bluetooth adapter. XBox you would need to buy a adapter for it to use wireless. They are coming out with new XB1 controllers in a few months that are bluetooth.

This. I didnt like the trackpad on the steam controller at all. It was so small that it didnt emulate a mouse very well and i use a trackball mouse on a regular basis.
