Because there are bixies. Banana flavor comes from isoamyl acetate, which is the same chemical that draws other bees to sting the same target. So after several bixie related deaths, erudites stopped the banana boats. After the resulting market crash, bananas were replaced as a cash crop with dry eye weed, and the trees went extinct.

Banana trees need a lot of sun, water, and heat. Unfortunately all of the tropical zones in norrath lack at least one of these requirements. Emerald Jungle is too dark, Oasis too dry, etc.
