My memories of EQ back in the year 2000 was generally of decent players who did respect camps, didn't train or KS or ninja loot or any of that other anti-social BS. The Play Nice Policy was very much in force with Verant (as they were called at the time). Now of course there were some anti-social idiots who did behave as you describe, absolutely, but they were the small (if loud) self-important minority. These folks tended to get petitioned of course, and would get little holidays from the GMs. I was one of those who petitioned folks like that, and back then, GMs would often respond and appear in person at the camp and take action swiftly. Most of us appreciated it. Not that the above has anything to do with shared accounts, mind you.

On live i had a Gnome Paladin called Gnonads. Got a msg to change it. So as a smartarse i chose Gnowm. They allowed it.
At 20 I chose a surname. Gnowm Deplume was born.

Raiding was ffa. So how did it even work? My radical theory is, if you were to simulate link deaths and lag spikes and zone crashes as they occurred during the first 4 years, you would find -- at last! -- the genuine gameplay of classic. I can't imagine a guild relying on a single char training a zone, for example. That's a crash and a LD, and some follow on LD's followed by a wipe. In live if you zoned your entire raid into PoF at once, you crashed the zone. Also, when Kunark was first released you had to camp out and back in in sebilis cuz you aggrod stuff when you went past the first door. Add "bugs" and you also get the original gameplay. But this game can't fail in 2025, and so a bard can kite all day. Using a steam deck.

i was real happy when i migrated to p99 from other EQEmus a few years back, because the tunnel was active and the raid scene was active and competitive.
then i spent a little time raiding and realized theres either warm bodies who arent fun to play with because they are seemingly AFK the whole time and tryhards who have 8 level 60s and swap back and forth during raids, gearing up their 3rd monk. back when i played between 2000-2003/4, people had one toon. and they spent their entire time invested in the game on the one toon. and if they didnt spend the time learning their class they quit by level 30. Nowadays its people who get carried to 60 and sit AFK on raids to collect DKP and people who just cant give this game up. (Im a part of the latter camp)
