Rage of Zomm summons a giant earth pet that melees for 81, can't be buffed at all and only has a few hit points. It also despawns when the mob it's fighting dies. It's mechanic's are similar to the Wizard sword and Cleric hammer. It does not stack sadly, that would have made it quite useful! If you're soloing for exp the best pet is generally 49 earth to 57 earth, shoutout to the 49 fire pet which is also quite good for that range. If you're grouping water or air are obviously better.

49 fire pet can take you to around lvl 55. Then mobs just have too much hp so switch to earth pets so you don’t pull aggro when raining mobs.

Around Luclin I recall mages could summon pet armor. While some things boost a pet, I expect a pile of banded is doing very little to add to mitigation. Pets are basically attacking mobs near or at their level.
The better gear to give them is a muzzle for haste and a weapon(s) to increase DPS. Argent Defender, Adamantite Bo Staff, Deadwood Staves. Really though, in the mid/high 50’s it’s far more mana efficient to pull with a big nuke and wait for low health to reclaim your pet and finish with a Sigil. Another reason the earth pet is handy….they are rooted so you can blast with less concern. Then you can summon a fresh pet and wait 7 more minute for the respawn. Soloing my mage in this way 56-60 I didn’t even care if I got a good pet or not so that’s another benefit of the disposable approach. | ||
