Welcome!
Just as you I want to start the game with a Paladin, but I did play in Beta until 2002 and know that it was impossible for a Paladin to level solo. It really is one of the worst classes to play, which is why it interests me.

I'm playing on the blue server as I was not able to change the UI on the green one.

My question: is it still possible to find groups starting from low level all the way? Even if I'm not a player who can play hours every day?

I just started up recently too. Don't neglect your other weapon skills when leveling up, if you are using a 2H slash as your main weapon but find a nice 2h blunt weapon but can't use it effectively because the skill is too low.

It's easier to keep them updated as you level rather than ignore it and try to build your skill up from 0 later in the game.

Hang on to your spiderling silk and skins and make leather padding to sell for some plat in the EC tunnel.

And check out the wiki, super helpful
very good advice for a starter!

i always recommend new players to start as a druid and level up to at least 19. it will be a good long term investment no matter what if you stick around and will be able to easilly make decent plat for a starting set of gear for a gear dependent character(which paladin is) to get you started off on the right foot.

starting off gearless as a gear dependent character and not having gate or movement speed buff is a majorly bad idea for a new player unless you are a masochist with a LOT of free time.

no matter what you choose, by the time you ever hit 50+ there is about a 90% chance you will end up rerolling a different character.

While I agree all newbies should start a druid I'm confused why they'd only take them to 19 and how they'd make any plat?

I'd put the number at at least 29 or 34. You can then make plat porting others. In addition you get a chance of trying just about every style of play the game has to at least a limited degree (minus maybe tanking). At 34 you can charm, root rot, fear kite, heal, buff, DD cast, quad kite, and will have meleed at least the first 14 or 19 levels.

At this point you'll know which style of play you enjoy and which class to focus on or if you enjoy it all continue on with the druid

19 is maximal value per time invested and the value is there regardless of what you choose to do with your account. leveling to 29+ is highly dependant on what you plan to do with your acount overall. The absolute value the druid provides will go up certainly but relative value to give player my make it complete waste of time.. That is why i recommended at least 19, not 19.

With a fair amount of hours into the usual suspects of money earning on a new (to you) server, you can gear up enough to solo a fresh Pally. Especially if you go Befallen, Unrest, and Undead Guk

Lowbie groups do exist! Your chances are probably a lot better if you find a casual guild too. I've been able to find a group when I want unless it's at odd hours. It just takes some legwork is all, which is the classic experience anyway haha.

Outside of monopolizing sisters, how do you actually make plat to fund other characters at 19, though?

Very easilly. there are dozens of ways to maake plat with a level 19 druid. from farming typical drops like gargs, to farming huge assortment of guards, to even a couple of rare drops/spawns that sell for a lot.

Druids can kill almost any non-caster up to 7-8 levels higher than them outdoors and have a unresistablle lull. perhaps most importantly of all when it comes to getting plat they can fly around the world quickly to find an open plat farming spot and/or bind at thier ideal one.
