Brand New Player to EQ
Hello everyone I am finally starting an Everquest journey I have long awaited. I had friends who played in Classic and I toyed around on Alta on their accounts a little (never past lvl 20 or so) I am starting on the Green server and was thinking of doing a Human Paladin. I have played Paladins in many other MMOs and tend to love the flavor and tool kit they bring. Is there any advice on add ons, mods, leveling track or anything helps honestly. Thanks for any help in advance and I look forward to seeing you all as I get started here.

Welcome aboard.
There are a few custom UI mods and a couple log parsers that you can set up to give you audio or text alerts, but that's about it. I would check out nParse as it's really easy to set up and also comes with a minimap. I would also check out the beginner/class guides on the p99 wiki, there's always lots of useful information there. |
Welcome. One thing you'll want to know is that there are some mentally ill people you need to ignore on these boards. Tunabros is one of said people. Most people you run across in game though should be chill enough. The bad, toxic players in game to avoid will be people in guilds like Seal Team, but they should be busy fighting over end game raid pixels so you shouldn't have to worry about them much at all.
On Green, unlike blue, my understanding is that you're not supposed to use custom UIs - but I've heard that GMs aren't enforcing this. A couple programs that are allowed though are GINA and Nparse. You'll want to make judicious use the of wiki - wiki.project1999.com. It has plenty of guides to read through and a lot of other useful information. |

Hey there and welcome! It's worth mentioning (I didn't know until recently) that Green is going to reset in a year (and indefinitely?). I know many people enjoy the refreshing but my play time is limited and I would be so bummed to have my characters erased. Play whatever seems cool to you but Pallys (all melee classes without higher tier gear) really do struggle in the game for awhile. Have fun and hmu on my 24 Shaman Spithridates on Blue if you switch over!

Best melee class for a new player is Monk. They're the least gear dependent to level and have all sorts of self-serving utility. |

I just started up recently too. Don't neglect your other weapon skills when leveling up, if you are using a 2H slash as your main weapon but find a nice 2h blunt weapon but can't use it effectively because the skill is too low.
It's easier to keep them updated as you level rather than ignore it and try to build your skill up from 0 later in the game. Hang on to your spiderling silk and skins and make leather padding to sell for some plat in the EC tunnel. And check out the wiki, super helpful |
