The room is centered around the origin (0, 0, 0). A lot of cat boxes and other dev rooms with locs written on the walls are -- it's a natural place to start at if you're opening the zone up in a viewer or otherwise entering it in an unguided way.

EQEmu #zone command sends the dev/GM using it to the zone's safe spot by default, but early EQ devs might not have had that luxury, I guess.

ToFS and PoM ones are at 0, 0, 0 as well.

Gives a little insight into what EQ devs called things, too... pretty much the same obvious things that players did.

Heh, he was sort of in the "Twilight Zone" at times. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Maybe it was a secret portal to his brown project - Vanguard...?

Pretty cool stuff, did some quick searching and found a thread containing more information about these cat rooms.

Stuff and things about cat rooms

Apparently they have one in VP as well

Good find!! I want to find more about hidden things in EQ. I am sure there are some old threads on even these forums with discussions about it.

Like so: http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=178005. There was another thread about how to get into the befallen cat room in-game (the only one directly connected to normally reachable areas of a zone, although it's on the other end of the zone-out except for a little space you can squeak by), but I couldn't find it in 30 seconds and gave up.

Extreme boredom dev room survey (time wasted: about 30 minutes):

befallen
cabwest
codecay
crystal
droga
echo
erudnext
erudnint
felwitheb
greatdivide (right below and to the side of the thurg zone-in obscuring waterfall)
griegsend
gukbottom (right where the guktop zone-in is, as I found out elsewhere -- the two zones are connected quite nicely otherwise)
hole
kaesora (nestled tightly between reachable rooms)
kaladimb
neriakb
neriakc
nurga
paineel
powater (nice shot of the zone's bizarre-looking water boxes, too)
qcat (no locs or cats, just an empty shaft)
skyshrine
soldunga
soldungb
soltemple
sseru (just a boring empty space)
stonebrunt (used their EQ title font there for some reason)
templeveeshan
thurgadinb
veeshan ('s peak)
warrens

plus frozenshadow, mischiefplane and necropolis as already seen.

Most other zones have 0, 0, 0 in player-reachable space, at least until about PoP/LDoN when they seem to have stopped worrying about it.

Least they're not horrifying cat face rooms.
