Tips from trying to get my GF to play.

Let wife lead and do whatever half the time. She hasn't been studying this game for 15 years like the rest of us. Grinding exp 100% of the time is boring. Follow her and watch her explore.

Druids and shamans have more utility. Maybe she would have more fun if she's set on healer. Or maybe enchanter. An enchanter/healer duo would make most groups amazing since all you need to sustain yourselves is a melee LFG (dime a dozen) or a charmed mob.

Yeah probably the better bet is to just let her pic what she want's to play and then take one of the better combo alts for yourself. There are quite a few combos that work well, and really doesn't matter which is best for [insert whatever here] but what is just most interesting for her/you to stick with.

Consider your past experience with the game (if any)
Long term goals (if you know the game)
You just mostly want to duo, group(pug?) or raid
Indoor vs outdoor
Available gear, pp to buy, or go mostly nekid
How much time a week for commitment
Fast travel vs taxi rides
Melee/Priest/Caster interests and working combos in that framework

Example: My wife wants to play enc. We have a couple hours a day and mostly want to lvl in dungeon pugs. Later we may want to do raids on the weekends.
Example 2: My wife wants to play a druid. We have an hour a day and want to just duo, travel a lot, have no gear to start, kill a lot of ice giants and such. Maybe small pug now and then.
Example 3: My wife is hardcore, will play anything with devotion. She is forcing me to play this game 10hrs a day o_0 and she just want's to get the best gear in the game as fast as possible then twink an alt later and do it all again (I'd take that as your interpretation of what she said [You must be logged in to view images. Thanks for all of the suggestions guys.

To answer some questions you had for me. I have nothing on project99, I just found out about this little gem a couple months ago and haven't really been very dedicated in playing.

I like the idea of just letting her pick what she wants. Hopefully she will want to try out druid, I like the idea of Enc/Druid

Keeping her interested will be the challenge. My fave duo is ENC/DRU as I am at least one of those two, but do not be wary if she wants to go off the three golden duos of enc/dru or mnk/shm or mag/clr. Shodo listed the best pairs, though there are choices beyond those. Warriors may not be the best duo partner, though they can get you into a raiding guild. Rangers have the worst reputation among classic players, yet bring the most utility (http://www.project1999.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=156572) Either knight class feels extraordinarily noble to play, and that can bring a lot to a person's willingness to log in! Yall have got all yer whole life to level up together, so don't worry a super lot about the *best* duo. That yer doing it together is a feat unto itself =)

I play an enc/dru combo with my wife on P1999 as well. Her favorite parts about the druid are the buffs and the fact that she's both a nuker and healer.

ench/druid is a great starting combo for people new to server, even mage/druid would be awesome.

I can second the SK/SHM duo. You can take just about anything, not too mention all of the buffs the Shammy can dish out for nice group play. pallies do not have as high DPS as SK unless you are in undead zone, then the pally is a beast.

I have duoed very successfully with pally/druid, but I mainly stuck with undead zones.

How new is your wife to EQ? some classes are much easier than others to learn.

Another thing to consider is what kind of playstyle your wife likes from other games. Is she the stay back and heal type? Likes to hit things? Likes to control the pace of the group? Pets? Good mobility? Jack-of-all-trades?

Suggesting a class suited to her likes then finding a decent pair for yourself is going to help keep her interested

I'd make sure one of the two classes is a sham/cleric/ or druid.

Enchanter/Druid for versatility (great buff supplements, charming, roots, snares, mezzes and ports) and ability to explore almost every spot.
Enchanter/Cleric for more taking on more difficult encounters

I'd rather have a Cleric than a Druid in nearly any possible scenario. I can always pay for ports, but CH is huge for grinding at higher level, when the pets have 8k hit points.
