It's mostly a combination of 1) tensions between the "social" and "hyper-competitive" play styles, 2) top-dog hate, 3) legitimate complain vis a vis endgame content monopolization, 4) haters, and 5) mouth breathers on both sides who like to hit each other with rolled up newspapers and flick boogers.

As I found out on EQ Live's progression server the social guilds are usually *worse* in terms of politics. Leaders have even bigger egos etc... God help you if you get the dreaded husband and wife co-guild leaders.
