I hope you don't get paid to write about food. Still can't get over your taste in sandwiches

I cannot believe how much grief I've gotten about loading up my sammich with veggies!

I don't usually do this at present, but I've written for companies in technology, medical devices, banking, finance, real estate, and gaming. I'm between semesters right now, so I picked up a contract with a cloud software company.

Your quotes are unnecessary; I get paid to write. There is no question about whether or not I am a professional writer. I am procrastinating on writing a press release at this very moment. It will indeed be filled with industry-specific jargon, most of which I have learned in the past month.

Yours would be a lovely solution if every English speaker had a working vocabulary in excess of 50,000 words. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The most effective method of communication is one that works. This conversation is definitive of differences in our personalities: I tend toward pragmatism and you toward idealism.

You demanded specificity and I gave you consonance. Enjoy it.
You mistake the intention of my jab.

And here - specifically - is why specificity matters.

In colloquial terms (i.e. wrongly defined words), professional means "getting paid to do something," and amateur means "not very good at something." However, in reality, professional indicates membership in a profession, which is a very specific type of job-class that implies expertise, knowledge, skill, and ethics, among other qualities. Amatuer (again this is in reality) refers to someone who does something because they love to do it (e.g. cognac amateur), and implies no such thing as lower skill level or lack of payment for services rendered. In fact, those meanings only came to common usage because of modern sports, and you're a pop culture ninny for not getting this in the first fucking place.

The quotes, Aladerp, were placed because I knew what you meant by professional. They were, in fact, implying colloquial usage.

Which makes all of this kind of ironing.

You are no longer arguing colloquialism against specificity; this is a difference between modern and traditional usage. How far back would you like to move in usage? Are you offended by the vowel shift? I would really enjoy it if you began posting in Middle or Old English.

Incidentally, your inability to avoid insults reduces your ability to communicate effectively far more than any word choice.

I choose my spots. They are meant playfully if that helps your sore ego.
