Maybe they just got sick of the political bullshit and wanted to make sure they weren't tempted to play again while at the same time letting the gear rot to prove a point/be sure that they aren't helping the server thrive because of all of the problems.

I've had corpses with full planar and over 80k in liquidables rot before on multiple occasions not because I'm letting them, but because I just got a month long suspension
