I gotta tell ya, I'm a little disturbed at how many people are saying middle/high school resumed normally after so many minutes. Like I said above, I was at work on Federal property and there was nothing that was going to keep me there. For all I knew there were 30 more planes that were going to crash into God-knows-what, so I wanted to get home and connect with my family ASAP. It seems odd to me that schools would try to gloss over it and not get those kids home to their families pronto.
I hear ya.

I was sent home from work that day shortly after I arrived and I live in Indiana (nowhere near New York).

Got into my next class and the teacher had the TV on, we watched it for 10 minutes until he turned it off, talked about it for a few more minutes, then school stuff resumed as normal.
I don't get why people were just like, talk talk talk, ok done turn it off. This is history, this is nuts, this is an attack on America. A country what's made up of all types, even those types. *sigh*

I was 11 at the time.
I just came home from secondary school (that's high school to the Americans), and my Mother was sitting on the sofa, kinda riveted on the TV.

I saw a replay of a plane hitting a tower and I said; "Hey, what film are you watching?"
Because never in a million years would you expect that to be real.

And then the second plane hit, and I watched it live.
I watched the collapses, and I was like... Oh dear god.

And then I was upset, and I wrote a short poem about humanity.

In a few weeks the thought of it was gone from my head though, because while very sad, for the rest of us; Life still goes on.

I am Canadian and was in the US at the time.

I was on vacation and was camping, After i woke up, was sitting outside the tent making breakie, Camp attendant told me that a plane just had crashed into the tower. I was like.... yeah sure budy.... if it is a joke it's a poor taste one. Guy didnt reply and made a face...

I jumped on my bike and drove to the town i was in and at this small mom and pop store, folks were glued to the TV watching the news... folks were crying and such. It was quite sad, later that day, folks were saying the borders were closed. All in all, pretty sad situation and years later... some of the folks supposedly responsible or involved are dead, yet the job sort of speak is still on going and not resolved. It makes me think about the will of the US govt, and in a way also the will of the US population to see things thru and support it or not.

I mean, sure things are supposed to be safer but there's been other incidents since then and unfortunately there will "probably" be more =(

Well said and as an American I have to agree. Your quote reminded me of how unified this country was during the madness and chaos of 9/11, but even then I sensed that the unity was temporary. Sure enough, it was. We're quite the divided nation these days and there's little reason to believe that'll change anytime soon.

I was getting in some Ancient Croc farming before class when my roommate got a phone call and came unglued. Flipped on the TV and about 15 seconds later, the 2nd plane hit the tower.
I skipped class that day (college) and watched the news.

....While playing EQ. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Edit: I re-read my post 12 hours later and realize it sounds flippant. I watched the 2nd plane hit, and both towers fall. It affected me so profoundly I enlisted 'delayed-entry' in the Army, finished that semester and spent 10 years on Active duty, including multiple tours to the middle east as a combat medic.

My mom just picked me up from school to go to the dentist, then we heard about it on the car radio.
