Has everything to do with the discussion. You're making it out like a single read, with a single projection operation, happening in literally the measurement of a nanosecond, is the end of the world.

Also my degree is from UCI, and I have a job making assloads of money for what amounts to reddit all day, all while finishing coursework for my master's to pursue a phd

And this is exactly why I don't do programming as a career. Very well said. I knew about this environment before I chose a different path (although still in the IT Field). Programming is my Hobby. As a job, I'm a network engineer. The two areas compliment eachother very well while keeping me interested in doing both of them.
