IGN gave the Virtual Console release [Eternal Champions] a 6 out of 10, criticizing its difficult to learn play mechanics and absurd cast of characters. They praised the game's story, training mode, and "inner strength meter" but concluded "it's not likely that many players who've never previously heard of the game will have the patience to spend that much time getting to know it."[1] Electronic Gaming Monthly similarly gave the game a 6.25 out of 10.[4]

Eternal Champions does not belong in a god tier games list especially when it can't compete with the following fighting classics:

Lol dude of course it doesn't compete with those. It was neither God tier game nor a completely shitty one. It was simply a pretty unique fighter game that had terrible controls yet was still pretty fun when I was like 8 or whatever and it came out.

I forgot about that fighting game it was badass it had little red riding hood with Uzis if I remember right. Come to think of it, it also had Morgana Nunu and the red riding hood aka Annie from LoL. Funny.

What I read from that EGM is that they're WoW type gamers and Eternal Champions was made for EQ type gamers.

Darkstalkers is fucking bad ass as hell. Loved that game and I wish they'd do a solid 2D fighter remake.

MK2 at the time I was obsessed with, but it had just insanely glaring balance issues if you ever got into the arcade tournament scene.
