I would go so far as to pick a region for number 1:

1.) Odus. The lore says that the Erudites wanted solitude, well played.
2.) Cazic-Thule. I want to love this zone, I really do. Its laid out well and is a great compliment to Guk. At least it would be if every other critter wasnt a cleric... that healed through walls. Just too much trouble for most players.
3.) Clan Runnyeye. I am fairly sure I have never been to this zone. Ever.

2. Seriously, there's an arena in every town.. 99.9% of the time there's nobody here.. It's a remote location with a singular purpose..
Decent place for non casters to bind if hunting in SK or possible rathe M.

Anyway for my answers...
Kerra isle. (tho it does have 1 quest in it worth doing)
Gorge (What is the point of this zone?)
Lavastorm. (Is there any reason to do anything other than pass through this zone? I tried grinding there once. Never again.)

Honorable mention to greater faydark. What a useless zone. At the grand level of 3 you're far better off in butcherblock.

While I'm at it... 3 best zones...

Misty thicket. Newbie zones don't get any better than this, in antonica at least. (never played iksar so I cant comment on fob)
(Tho butcherblock is a very decent substitute for those levels)
Overthere. Nice open terrain, decent range of mobs. Banking and vendors for evil/neutral.
South karana. Very few hostile mobs, especially if not evil. Very wide range of mobs. You can start there right after the newbie zone and stay till 35. Downside is it's a long way to the bank.

1) Kerra Isle

WTF is the point of this zone? It feels so out of place, even on deserted Odus. It's like they went to the trouble of making a cat-person model for a Guk-style dungeon, then realized during testing that people wouldn't enjoy killing cats like they do frogloks. So they just stuck them in this throwaway zone to get some use out of them. Does anyone know the actual story? This zone just makes no sense to me.

Eq is very lore focused, a surprising amount of effort was put into this aspect of the game. Lore wise, when the erudites arrived on Odus, they soon warred with and displaced the native kerrans, who they deemed primitive and uncivilized. (The kerrans were organized and strong enough to be a threat, but only a minor one). The kerrans on kerra ridge are the descendants of the survivors who were driven out of Odus's heartlands

I disagree about Erud's Crossing. I made so much money back in the day running lightstones from there to the gypsy camp.

Oh, oh, I have data on zone populations - though not 100% accurate [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

WW: insta-click earring. Decent geography with the river, giant fort, and goblin fort.
Kithicor: Rogue epic fight. This zone single-handedly beats every SINGLE zone in WoW because it makes people AFRAID of the zone. If you are under L40, you DON'T zone in at night without being seriously afraid for your pixels.
Dalnir's: The Kly! And good monk armor. Its a fun zone utilizing the Z-axis more than most dungeons.

For my response:
Kerra Island
Gorge of King Xorbb
Swamp of No Hope

What? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

WW: amazing zone! you can lvl 1 - 36 and never leave the zone. Giant fort is super cool spot with good pp loot, same goes for the goblin fort. It has interesting layout with the river canyon and I actually love how confusing the zone is if you dont know it well, I dont like easy zones. WW is one of the 10 best zones in game easy.

Dalnir: another great zone, good use of Z axis, one way portal out=challenge, nice crescent monk gear, good exp, fun zone for full grp.

Idk about Kithikor, never really spent time there, but I really like the day/night change and I remember being low lvl Iksar bound in Overthere and scared shitless when going through. Definitely not one of 3 most undesired zones in game.

my pick would be
The Arena
Gorge of King Xorbb
Erud's Crossing
