Food is scarce...enalrge your hatchery. Your creatures are annoyed, you cannot pay them.
I miss dungeon keeper big time. Tempted to build a windows 98 rig so I can play it.

These forums are a treasure of information. If you really want to know what your EQ experience is, dig through the forums for the past two years. Oh heck I'll find a couple of my posts from 2010 when I played here (when the pop was 880 nightly). If nothing else, it sets expectations. You will have a blast on this server at least for a while, and maybe for a long time.

As a lvl 14 chanter, I'll outline my experiences:

solo 1 to perhaps 7. Nice folks at the gates will give an occasional buff or even an item!

After that get in an orc camp in EC. That worked for a couple levels. After that, it's not that easy to group..I've solod the vast majority of the time. But I also haven't walked up and asked to join every group. Other than that orc camp, most groups I've seen are "guild lowbie groups." Meaning it's their twinks and others usually aren't welcome.

This is the most classic experience you will get; but you will also see plenty of PL'n and twinks here. That aside, it is still a thrill to play old EQ. And if you play a group-required class like tank or cleric then you will most certainly get more groups than I. I did meet a few cool folks to group with in befallen around lvl 8 or so; but haven't seen them online since. I'd say I bump into 1/3rd cool people and 2/3 snobs.

I've encountered twinks most of the time. Only rarely do I encounter a genuine low level player. I would say groups welcoming new players are infrequent (unless you mean orc1 in EC). However if you play a cleric you are almost guaranteed a group; play a tank and you should get a group. A troll/ogre sk or the like will have a harder time getting a group.

That said, it IS fun to see a good number of players in old zones.

As a newer player I will say it's pretty lonely. Sure it's great to see all the people in old content. But after 22 levels of pretty much soloing, I miss the type of comraderie that was abundant in original '99 EQ.

This server has too many twinks, powerleveled characters, and guild elitists :P. Which is not too welcoming an environment for new players.

/bow...I'm not worthy, etc. to the handful of super friendly elite characters. The ones who run through guk shouting free rez; or who take a few minutes to buff or say hello even. They are the reason this pop is growing consistently.

As a 22 chanter who has played for the last six weeks or so, I will say I have seen plenty of tanks to group with but only rarely saw a cleric.

other than that, i rarely see wizards.

lots of enchanters, necros, and druids, ogre/troll tanks, shamans

Welcome to the server! I had a similar experience. Lots of twinks and PL'd folks here. But you will find the occasional new person to group with; and hopefully can form a more permanent group. EC seems good for orc groups; but those won't be permament group mates. I'm surprised no one is grouping in Crushbone?? Again, welcome!

I would just like to add that you will sometimes meet very nice and helpful players. Maybe someone will give you a nice magic item; or give you a buff; or help you with a rez. And you sometimes get in a group that seems to know how to play; and have lots of fun for several hours.

This happens infrequently; but when it does it makes everything seem worthwhile.

Best wishes and safe travels, dragolyche!

Also, don't listen to Arc. Basically all he has ever done on the forums is complain about everything.

I've had a GREAT time leveling several characters, casters and melee, solo and group, 1-50+ on p99. The biggest key, imo, is finding people to populate your friends list who you enjoy playing with and talking to. A guild is great too, but it is harder to find a guild full of people you like than it is to put 5-10 people on your friends list that you can /tell when you want/need a group.

To the guy who wanted to play DK again, check out KeeperFX, its a fan made recreation of dungeon keeper, and its all the same. I've got it downloaded on my computer and it had windows 7... Anyways, its alot of fun, definately a nostalgic factor in it from my child hood just like everquest. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Yup was about to say the same, no need for a Win 98 rig, it works fine on Win7 after some tweaking with Keeper FX. Definitely worth a ride for the poor souls who missed it, this is a timeless classic just like EQ [You must be logged in to view images. Brutal and Nogdar, thanks! Tecmos, thanks too; your posts always make me chuckle. I agree that your biggest challenge probably was, and remains, finding friends. Good luck with that.
