The problem with this is with every classic move, a seemingly random completely non-classic move goes in the opposite direction. For this patch, they removed the pet UI, understandable, however they added fluctuating spawn times in zones. That's one step towards classic and ten steps away. I'm not trying to bitch or whine (yar half of the people with pets still get to use their pet UI for some reason), but the classic purist standpoint is moot by now.

I believe (I could be mistaken) based on server talk that spawn times in popular zones have been modified to spawn faster or slower based on the number of players in the zone. I think this was in the motd and not documented in the patch notes. My main point is that countless times things have been added to somehow balance or enhance the game that are not so classic. One such instance I can think of is the changed the change to the way exp is awarded to pet classes. I love this server but I just can't really see anyone arguing for 100% classic over balance and functionality, because that's how its been going. To see helpful UI things such as a compass and a pet window go (and maps, spell sets, etc) doesn't make sense to me when you change the game blatantly in other ways. Let me reiterate, I love the server great stuff, just stop with 100% classic bologna when justifying little UI changes.

Not in the motd.

Ok then it was stated pretty heavily that it was the case as the server was coming up. Thanks for the wonderful picture though. Basically I was in KC and there was a pretty heated debate over it. If they were misinformed, my mistake but I recall reading yellow text about it at one point as well. If I am incorrect it doesn't refute the fact that they go for balance and functionality over the 100% classic experience, which I don't mind.

Stopped reading there. You can get upset all you want, but the fact of the matter is, nilbog and company has stated many many times that as time progresses, the server will be tuned closer and closer to EQ classic. It's not going to be done overnight (obviously), but it will happen.

People who are regularly on these forums know this, hence why most of them were not surprised by the patch notes, nor did they care.

People who regularly read these forums have seen this debate a million times and know that nothing good comes from it. I'm not going to go any further in this thread as I'm new from coming back from playing to raid content a couple years ago and I can't intelligently argue about the points I was making. A first for the internet! Good days to you all [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Good work on the server devs.
