The way I remember it, when Kunark first came out, nothing was soul bound. if you died inside sebilis, you had to be rezzed back in or do the quest again. Then sometime during kunark (I want to say it was fairly soon after release), they added the soulbound feature.

I'm almost positive that keys weren't soulbound right away, but thats just from memory....

...which may not be the most reliable source since i don't remember the teeth mentioned for the ports. I do remember the key needed to go from skyshrine to cobalt scar though.

Good lord. So much text. So little information.

I only asked 2 questions, and had to delete the majority of posts here.

I have no idea why feelings about everything besides soulbound keys made it into this thread.

Stay the fuck on topic.

1. Banked keys stayed in bank after death. I've noticed on this server you don't need to have the key on cursor to open a door as long as it's in your inventory, but I'm not sure if it'd still work if it's in your bank.

2. No idea. My vote would be alphabetical, but that's just a guess.

3. Not a question you asked, but it was mentioned. Soul bound keys were not available at the start of Kunark, in fact, they were introduced much later.

There was no GM support in those locations (or limited support) because they didn't want raiding guilds to make a hack guide to go explore stuff and get info.

I intend on keeping the keys non-soulbound until they were patched and fixed. It adds a lot to the danger element. And that is a key to the risk vs reward for those zones, especially VP. As that key did not become soulbound until much, MUCH later.

I vaguely remember the original 'official' warning in regard to Veeshan's peak, but I have been unable to find the exact quote anywhere; it did, however, specifically say that there would be no gm assistance at all in regard to VP, and that was right from the release of the expansion.

What you say here may be accurate (and perhaps the 'real' reason), but what they stressed at the time was that it was a very, very difficult zone and that if you got into trouble (e.g. if your raid wiped and everyone's corpse was stuck in there) that they were not going to help you.

I remember thinking at the time that they just really wanted to highlight the toughness of the zone and both wanted to enhance the level of difficulty by ensuring that their would be no chance of rescue, and also probably wanted to avoid any extensive hassles in trying to sort out what actually happened when the inevitable problems occurred.

Found the date for soulbound.

*Keyed Dungeons*

The key for Charasis (Howling Stones) is now NODROP per the patch
message from a couple of weeks ago. Furthermore, when your character
dies, keys for Charasis, Sebilis, and Veeshan's Peak, will no longer
remain with your corpse, but will instead return with your character to
its bind point. We made this change to reduce the difficulty and
corpse-loss potential of these zones, and eliminate the need to do the
key quests multiple times.

I don't remember them being alphabetical. Probably in the order you obtained them? And yeah I think you had to hold them and aim with cursor like a Rogue with lockpicks.

Is this one of the non classic things you are adding to the server?

I know keys were not soulbound during mid Velious because i was in Conquest the day 24 of us got suspended. Before they suspended us the gm's were summoning us back to outside ST to loot our keys so they would not poof during our suspension.
i remember conquests vids. one of the few vids out that were fun to watch. that and the botb tourneys.
