Boxing is quite literally less than a quarter of the skill needed to make it in the sport of MMA.

Throw a boxer into the octagon with any mediocre MMA fighter and he will get his shit pushed in.
True, however the fact that you say "octagon" in reference to MMA shows how much you actually know about MMA.

Also true, although I would argue in both cases that both comparisons are to sports that are fairly similar in the general objective.

I do get sick of boxing fanboys or MMA fanboys trying to compare them and create conflict. Would a 150lbs boxer get destroyed in a MMA match with another 150lbs MMA fighter? Yes. Would that same MMA fighter get destroyed by that boxer in a boxing ring? Yes.

Would a snake kill a shark on dry land? Yes. Would a shark kill a snake in water? Yes. Would Michael Phelps crush Dwight Howard in the 100m butterfly... would Howard slam it in Phelps' face on the court? You can see how silly these questions become when they are allowed to slide down their already slippery slope starting with boxing vs. MMA.

Boxing vs. MMA, who cares? I have done both boxing and MMA and well... Judo is harder [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Comparing swimming to basketball lol

Argumentum ad absurdum

Boxing is relevant and able to be compared to MMA. Swimming in relation to basketball, is not relevant. Very poor analogies...
Yes, boxing is part of martial arts (and one could reasonably argue, yes 1/4 of MMA), but I was showing you what happens if your comparison is allowed to slide down your slippery slope. Boxing vs. MMA is already half way down. YOU SET YOURSELF UP FOR IT.

How is this for an analogy... saying a boxer would get schooled by an MMA fighter is like saying a jockey or equestrian would get messed up in a polo match. Boxing and MMA are completely different. Everyone knows this... why create a fake conflict? The only tools creating fake conflicts are those with vested interests in the one they promote. Both can exist in harmony or complete seclusion. Why care friend? Get beat up by a boxer? Or are you a new recruit to the sherdog.com forums?

Because he's stupid and all he does here is create conflicts where none exist. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

If you want to analogize, then boxing is long-distance running and MMA is soccer (which includes the former). It does not make boxing any less of a traditional sport just because it's more simplified/focused.

Also,

Yes, and you throw the same mediocre MMA fighter into a boxing ring and he will get his shit pushed in.
