This subject has been discussed before and I think that this is what will happen. This is all SPECULATION.
Once the developers have released Velious, they will focus on the long list of bugs, prioritized. Work will be focused on getting all of the content and game mechanics in line with what live was (or as close to it as possible). Once satisfied that they have hit their target, a new server will be stood up (leaving the current server in place). The new server will progress at the rate that live did. Items removed or changed will be be done so at the correct rate of change. It will be a true classic experience. There will be no slow progress of classic changes or broken content / game mechanics. I think they may then opt to add some additional content to the "old" server in order to get people to play there as well. Perhaps they will add some additional raid content? Perhaps it will be left alone.

Please understand that I am also not trolling with what I am about to say:
I watched an incredibly noisy minority storm the boards and plead, beg, threaten and rage for a PvP server. The vocal minority got it. I personally think the staff bent over backwards for that minority and so I personally am not very sympathetic to any act to give more to what is now an obvious minority. The PvP server took time from Velious development and it hasn't amounted to anything but a headache for the staff and many of the more trolling players on red threadshitted blue for months and months. Sorry, but as I see it, the minority already got what they specifically wanted. Go enjoy it. Us carebears will continue to enjoy p99 blue.

Diablo 3 will be unreleased, and Blizzard will admit they made a huge mistake in the asinine and noobish incarnation of gaming shit that they sold to us between two slices of bread. Everyone will admit that Harrison is right, and he will be the new lead server GM. In a Shamalyan twist, he will free all the boxers and exploiters from their mortal coils, entombing them in the server in electronic form, where they will be doomed to live out eternity in this broken shell of an increasingly unClassic server. Amelinda will process several petitions from the forum, after her daily granting of IP exemptions. Rogean will laugh to see such sport, and the Dish ran away with the Spoon.

There's only so many people that know about, or enjoy, Classic EQ especially that still game. Even fewer that know of P99. Advertising the server (a difficult task to accomplish) can help a bit but it only delays the inevitable if growth is not being considered. Let's just put it this way, Let's assume Velious drops 3 months from now, Then the staff hits the patch timeline about 5-6 months after that (up to the day before Luclin's release on Live) and stop. No growth from that point on and the server content stagnates. I'd give the server about 5 years max from that point before it completely dies, and that accounts for the in and out flow of players (old bored players leaving, or getting banned, and new players joining). Eventually the server would have to build content of some form to interest people to come back or to stay. Preferably they would do so by taking each following expansion and rebuilding it, taking the base expansion and changing what the community generally disliked about that expansion to make it more "Classic". Examples being scaling down the hp of mobs in Luclin, countering item mudflation, removing books from PoK, removing Guild Lobby, removing Guild Hall, removing instances, slowing down the level cap changes etc. However, even that is easier said than done. Good luck getting anyone to agree on what pieces of the newer expansions get kept and which ones get struck from the game before release. Example poll: Keep Bazaar in Luclin?: 500 total votes Yes, I love leaving my toon afk all night to sell my shit at ridiculous prices. 37% 185 No, making a player into a lifeless npc Bazaar-jockey kills my immersion. 20% 100 I've hated all forms of felines in real life since 2001 43% 215

That isn't necessarily true. Look how many years later we are all here to play a classic version of this game? It has expanded way pass where we are but we are all here playing. Expansion isn't necessary. We may leave but others will take our place. I use to play rubies of even tide which never expanded yet people played it till they closed their doors.
Gms held custom events ever so often which was nice but didn't destroy the game with expansions. In eq you can't really go past velious without things getting ridiculous looking. Mixed matched graphics, playable cats, beast lords, bazaar, books, nexus, playing on a moon, aliens. Eq became garbage and it would be ashame to take the one project out of all the possible servers you can play on that already has all that garbage and make it the same.

The mission statement of this server has always been: to provide an accurate timeline of everquest up to velious. I believe Velious will come out. However the timeline has been late at times. I mean there is like 2 guys working on the code, the timeline will be difficult to maintain.
Me personally. velious, planes and LDoN were the best things to come from Sony's creative juices. As much as i would like to see all of them I do not believe it will happen. Red server is dead, it should e terminated as such. Would much rather investment on a server to be a second blue server, starting the timeline over. It doesnt take much population to ave multiple guilds fighting over raid mobs. i would have to estemate kunark raised the average population by 75 during non peak hours and 400 during peak hours. that has changed now and peak off and peak hours are still higher population that when was straight original. I would expect this same pattern for velious, if not more. Velious was the ticket for everquest. EQ was a cult thing and Velious made it more mainstream. 3 of my friends said they wouldnt play unless velious was out and one wouldnt play unless AA was in the game. In summary, Velious will have a population surge as expected, and should give new higher daily averages for peak and off peak hours. this should lead to a very crowded server. Red should be killed and a new progressive server DB installed.

I think it would be cool if after this server reaches velious, they start turning it into Everquest classic trilogy revisioned. Customize the classes with custom AAs, tweak their abilities. (ex. modify warriors where tanking with a shield is possible, bash builds hate give warriors the ability to 5 second stun with kick, bash dispells 1 effect etc) Increase XP rates, mana and hp regen out of battle is much greater. Maybe custom raid mobs and named mobs though the world, long custom quest with custom items. Spawn raid mobs with long repeatable quest and what ever else the developers can dream up while keeping the classic feel and look to the game. At this point the current red server would be wiped and the progression of classic unaltered Everquest restarts.
