Nah man, he'll just join a guild for a while and convince them an enchanter needs this over a melee, then rage out over something silly and deguild with his ring. EASY PEASY!

I wouldn't waste time doing tradeskills for the 8th shawl. As much as I would love them to make it available anyways, shawl in velious stop at 7.

and the giants during the ring war were pretty much unkittable at first, unless you put a tank on them, they wouldnt aggro the player and go straight for thurg. Kiting 90 % of the giants by a bard didn't work, in classic EQ.

Follow your link. I dont think it is a ground spawn. It sounds like it is a trap that pops the item.

I wouldn't worry about having help for the ring war, people will come just for the faction hits. It'll be puggable after not too long.

I'm looking forward to pulling Kael Drakkal on my SHD. Thought I don't know how long it'll take me to get my level up to get there. Some of the most fun I had until tanking trash in Tactics.
