You guys are all laughing, but if it's this obvious to us... how obvious must it be to people with database access?

It took me awhile cause I enjoyed surfing and trolling here from time to time... but I am gonna guess this forum handle is eating a ban soon.

Step by Step Guide to Catching RMT Characters

Step 1:
For every account offered on the RMT site, manually query database of characters that fit description (level, race, class, items). Should be relatively few characters that match exactly.

Step 2:
Of the few characters in the query, see which ones are played frequently. If character isn't played often then likely suspect

Step 3:
Look at IP addresses that the character's account logs in from. If the account has a long history of logging in from a single IP then suddenly changes to another IP then likely suspect.

How hard is this guys?
They arn't being paid from us to play this game so WTF do they care. If anything it promotes the game to the outside world. You can't even find a plat seller for EQMAC but they sure do have a website just for RMT any thing in the p99 EQ world. I think most people would just come here and buy the plat for a head start.

While I agree that there's no problem with RMT, because it's anyones goddamn choice what they spend their own paycheck on... that isn't the point.

The point is that Rogean tries to maintain some moral high ground and claim that RMT is squashed and zero tolerance. Which clearly isn't true.

They spend time monitoring potential 2 boxers, play(ed) babysitter to raiders, and state that RMT is against the rules, so I assume they do care.

Whats to stop me from looking at the forums here, choose a random account and then go to a RMT site and make an identical thread? So that people think the person is RMTing it.

Right, that's where step 3 comes into play. Once a character enters the "watchlist", the IP of the character is monitored closely. Most people log in from the same set of IPs on a daily basis (unless you travel all the time - not the typical case). If the IP soon after changes to a totally new IP then it enters the "closely watched list". If the character consistently logs in from that same new IP then we have a strong evidence to believe the character was RMTed.

Only possible false positives would come if somebody posts a character that isn't theirs on RMT forums (they'd have to know all of their equipment and bagged loot) and soon after the owner of the account moves, goes on an extended trip, or suddenly starts allowing new guildies to use their character.

And... if they sold for platinum 'legit' as per their real auction thread on P99 boards? The account would change hands and the IP address which access the account would change..

Easiest solution, ban account sales for platinum.

this isnt the first of these threads, and unfortunatly wont be the last. I mean come on, you quit a game so you sell your character? hmmmmmmm wonder why. The fact that character sales are allowed on this server even with Plat is a bit odd. I mean you dont want to allow 2boxing because it hurts the servers health so does selling characters imo. Forcing people to lvl their own characters would only increase the ammount of people leveling at lower lvls. Meh..... continue...RMT omg its happening !!!

No one but sony can make a profit from EQ, with enough people making profits from p1999 sony "could" find cause to shut down p199 or/and eqemu
This is the real reason rmt isn't allowed
